Time Bubble Machine
A childhood soda advert, projected onto a soap film that keeps bursting.
In this work I delve into my visual heritage and my connection to the past. The recreation of a soda-bottle animation from my childhood becomes a bridge between a utopian communist world and the harsh realities of the present. It brings back the longing for the small, fleeting pleasures of the past, and the desire for a capitalist decadence that always stayed just out of reach.
Using mechatronics, I merge these opposing worlds: the Ci-Co bottle hangs on a thin soap bubble that reaches beyond reality. Accompanied by a soothing voice reading poetry, the piece carries a message of love and hope in a world torn apart by conflict and mistrust.
